NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES MAKES
AWARD TO DELHI HISTORICAL SOCIETY
DELHI TOWNSHIP/HAMILTON COUNTY, August 11, 2001—Delhi Historical Society (DHS) was awarded a $5,000 preservation grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
Sue Ann Painter, the Society’s director of public programs and collections, will direct the project, which begins in September 2001. Ohio was awarded nine preservation grants. Only Delhi and two other Ohio historical collections received the $5,000 maximum award for preservation.
NEH provides project funding for public programs, K-12 education programs, and higher education programs. It also provides grants for the preservation of collections at museums, historic sites and archives throughout the U.S.
The NEH grant will enable the Delhi Historical Society to:
Purchase archival storage systems and preservation supplies for its museum and library collections
Engage archive and museum preservation professionals to conduct workshops to train staff and volunteer staff
Design a long-range preservation and off-site storage plan, which allows for an expected influx of materials in 2001-02 in conjunction with the Society’s "Rise of the Urban Township" history project.
Project director Sue Ann Painter will coordinate volunteer training and preservation procedures. Peg Schmidt, Curator of DHS collections, is the project advisor. With proper storage and professional standards in place, the Society will be well equipped to care for its growing collection of original documents, photographs, and museum objects.
Delhi Historical Society Farmhouse Museum, 468 Anderson Ferry Road in Delhi Township, is open noon until 3 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The research library is free and open to the public.
